Crucial crew in Neath Port Talbot

Crucial Crew is an annual event for year 6 pupils organized by the Neath Port Talbot's Community Safety Team.

The event is designed to raise awareness among pupils in their final year at Primary School, of the dangers they may face in every day life. Crucial Crew is held for two weeks every year and involves many different agencies working in partnership with the aim of the pupils achieving the following skills:-

  • Become more aware of personal safety
  • Learn how to react to a dangerous situation
  • Make a contribution to crime prevention
  • Avoid being made a victim of crime
  • Know what role the emergency services play
  • Foster good citizenship.

The event consists of real life interactive sets for each agency. Pupils are placed into small groups and spend ten minutes at each set where they are presented with a number of tasks and situations to which they have to respond.

Neath Port Talbot's Road Safety Team has participated in this event since its introduction in 1996. Last year, over 1900 pupils attended the event. For the past few years the Road Safety Team has concentrated their safety message on Seatbelt Safety.

The set involves a demonstration with a seatbelt sledge and also some hard hitting campaign videos to help get the message across on the importance of wearing a seatbelt AT ALL TIMES wherever they are fitted.
