Road safety education in schools

Neath Port Talbot's Road Safety Unit is committed to fulfilling its responsibility of providing an ongoing Education, Training and Publicity programme for all. In order to meet these responsibilities, one of the main roles of the unit from a schools perspective, is to actively support Road Safety Education in pre-primary, primary and secondary schools, through the provision of educational resources, help in lesson planning as well as delivery of education on request.

Road awareness needs to be developed from an early age and continued throughout life. Road user education is a relevant and vital aspect of Personal Health and Social Education, helping pupils to take responsibility for their own safety and to consider the needs of others. Road Safety Education can contribute to the general educational goals of the whole curriculum by promoting moral, cultural, mental and physical development.

  • Provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve;
  • Prepare all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
