Bathing water quality

The EU Bathing Water Directive (76/160/EEC) requires Member States to identify popular bathing areas and monitor the waters for indicators of microbiological pollution throughout the bathing season, which runs from 15 May to 30 September.

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council has identified one beach, at Aberavon, where sampling is carried out. Sampling for coliform organisms is carried out by the Environment Agency on a weekly basis during the bathing season.
