Cwmavon Road Closure Notice

Depot Road in Cwmavon will be closed in both directions for two weeks starting on Tuesday 28th May. There will also be limited access to a separate section of Depot Road and Ty’r Owen Row during this period. The closures are necessary for essential road resurfacing and maintenance works.

- Area 1 (Depot Road) - Complete road closure for the duration of the works.
- Area 2 (access to Ty’r Owen Row) - Resident access only during working hours. Open to access for all road users (when possible) from 6pm.
- Area 3 (Depot Road junction) Open to access for all road users (when possible) from 6pm
A diversion route suitable for all traffic and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) will be signposted.
Pedestrian access to shops, businesses and the school will remain throughout the closures. Access for emergency vehicles will also remain.
Residents living within the closure areas are being asked to make alternative car parking arrangements. All affected residents within the closure will receive a letter to inform them of the changes to their recycling collections.
Public Transport Changes:
Local service Bus arrangements:
Service 83 and the College service 902 - will not serve Depot Road. The bus will divert via Heol Jubilee and Tabernacle Terrace. The nearest bus stops for Depot road residents will be Heol Jubilee or hail the bus along Tabernacle Terrace or outside Ynys Y wern.
Service 81 Port Talbot to Brynbryddan - will not serve Depot road or Heol Jiwbili. Heol Jiwbili residents must catch the service 83 to and from Port Talbot. Service 81serve Tabernacle Terrace, take its normal route via Cwmclais Road, Brynna Rd, Heol Mabon and Heol Camlas and exit back down Tabernacle Terrace. It will not serve Heol Jiwbili.
Home to school transport arrangements:
School buses CWMB6 to Cwmbrombil operated by DJ Thomas Coaches and service 449 to St Joseph’s RC Comprehensive operated by Llynfi Coaches will not be travelling via Depot Road. The buses will operate via Heol Jiwbili and Tabernacle Terrace. The nearest bus stop locations for pupils that usually catch the bus along Depot Road, opposite Cwmavon school and on Cwmavon Rd near Caeglas will be at Heol Jiwbili. Hail the bus along Tabernacle Terrace or at Ynys Y Wern.
St Joseph’s RC Primary school minibus route 418 operated by Llynfi Coaches will continue the same route, however, it will travel via High Street in the morning in order to collect at Cae Glas. Pupils travelling on the school buses serving Cwmavon Primary school from outside the village will not be affected but the vehicles will take alternative routes to and from school via Heol Jiwbili, Tabernacle Terrace and High St.
