Day of activities planned at Margam Country Park for start of Tour of Britain 2023 finale

Final preparations are under way at Margam Country Park which this Sunday (September 10th) hosts the start of the spectacular final stage of the Tour of Britain 2023 cycling race.

To watch more than 100 of the world’s finest top professional cyclists set off from Margam to the finishing line in the shadows of Caerphilly Castle, if coming by car, you are advised to pre-book a parking space.

After the teams in the long awaited race finale (stage 8) are introduced from the start podium, set against historic Margam Castle, Councillor Cen Phillips, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Nature, Tourism and Wellbeing, will drop the start flag.

The battle to be crowned Tour of Britain champion will go down to the wire on Sunday thanks to a stunning but challenging route supported by the Welsh Government.

The official Stage 8 start of The Tour of Britain 2023, is supported by NPT Council and NPTC Group of Colleges ‘More Than Just An Education’.

Mark Dacey, CEO of NPTC Group of Colleges said: “We are delighted to be supporting this headline cycling event as it visits our local community of Neath Port Talbot.  It gives our students and communities the opportunity to see some of the biggest names in cycling gracing our roads whilst also providing the opportunity for people to have fun trying out cycling and getting involved in lots of exciting activities on the day.”

Also, representatives of Day’s Motor Group, the Home of the INEOS Grenadier 4x4in Wales, will be at the event to support the INEOS Grenadiers cycling team and to display the very latest INEOS Grenadier models from the company’s Neath showroom.

  

Visitors to the start of the race’s final stage can also watch ITV4’s coverage of the whole stage to Caerphilly streamed live on a big screen in front of the castle – the bjg screen coverage being just part of a range of exciting activities at the park on Sunday from archery to junior ‘Dirt Crit’ mountain bike races.

The Tour of Britain team buses are due to arrive at 9.30 am with the race starting at 11.15am.

There will be a RevoLOOtion unit onsite for the event providing fully accessible toilet facilities.
