Western Bay Adoption
Adoption teams from Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea councils have joined forces to provide a bigger and better adoption service.
Our newly created Western Bay Adoption Service aims to improve services for both adopters and children who are seeking adoption.
Ultimately we want a child’s journey leading up to adoption to be smooth and as short as possible, focussing on finding forever families for children in the Western Bay area and beyond.
The adoption service is responsible for recruiting, training and assessing potential adopters and for finding families for children who need to be adopted.
In addition, we provide information, advice and guidance for:
- Anyone considering adoption;
- Parents who have already adopted / have been approved to adopt;
- Adopted children - including those who are now adults;
- Parents/carers of such children; a
- Families and biological relatives, including counselling.
As long as you are over 21, live in the UK, and have no child-related cautions or convictions against you, and have space in your home, you may be suitable for adoption.
We have a variety of children of all ages waiting to be adopted. This includes children who need to be placed alone or with siblings, and those who may or may not have additional problems.
We pride ourselves on providing a high quality service to our customers, providing a more robust and prompt process for adopters and ongoing engagement.
West Bay as a whole is proud of the reputation it has for assessing most prospective adopters and being ready to go to a panel meeting within five to seven months.
When you have made the important decision to adopt, which will change your life, it is understandable that you will want the process to be as quick as possible. Waiting for something you really want is a difficult and frustrating experience. However, this is not something we can rush. We have to ensure that adoption is suitable for you, and that we correctly match children with suitable families, which is extremely important.
Although adoption is a rewarding experience, it can also be difficult at times - it's not all honey. That is why it is important that we provide experienced members of staff to guide and assist adopters through the adoption process. Experience brings with it a better understanding of the different emotions experienced by the adopters at different times, and the support they need can then be provided to help them through this difficult period. You can be sure that we will support you every step of the way.
There are many children who need permanent, or 'forever', families. It would be possible for more children to be adopted if the right families were available.
If you are considering adopting a child, we can offer you advice, guidance and support. We understand that adoption is a big decision for anyone to make, which is why every member of our team has the experience to answer any questions you may have.
