Approval standards

National Statutory Standards for Sustainable Drainage Systems

Any sustainable drainage system must meet these standards if they are to be approved and adopted by the SAB. Failure to meet these standards will result in a decision of refusal of the application. Therefore it is advised that early discussions with the SAB through pre-application advice is applied for.

Read the full standards document on the Welsh Government website.

Other Standards and Checklists

Each application should be designed in accordance with the latest SUDS Manual by Ciria (C753) and should incorporate their checklists. The relevant chapters are given in the application forms, and should be referred to within the submitted application.

Local Standards

Together with the National Standards and SUDS Manual there is are also local design standards contained within the Neath Port Talbot Sustainable Drainage design guide which can be referred to as well.

NB: This Authority does not accept the use of deep bore-hole soakaways as they do not mimic the natural drainage of the land.
