Godre’r Graig primary school update - 22 August 2019

Neath Port Talbot Council’s plan to provide demountable classrooms for use by Godre’r Graig Primary School pupils in their own dedicated area at Cwmtawe Community School is on track to be completed by the first week of September.

A meeting of the Council’s Godre’r Graig Primary School Task Force group on August 21st heard workers are doing 12 hour shifts at Cwmtawe Community School to complete tasks such as fitting data cabling, installing electrical systems, finishing floors and carrying out carpentry work on the classrooms as they are delivered by contractors.

The first demountable arrived on site last Friday (August 16th), the second arrived on Tuesday, August 20th, the third will arrive today (August 22nd) and the fourth is due to arrive on Tuesday, August 27th. The first of the four units is already in place and has been made watertight.

The demountables are being supplied by a firm based in Scotland, the Council having scoured the country for contractors with the expertise and equipment available to put the classrooms in place quickly and safely.

Western Power is expected to switch on power for the site on Friday (August 23rd) and planning permission for the work has been approved.

Transport arrangements for Godre’r Graig Primary School pupils (plus the nursery pupils) have now been made and the new routes and timetables plus pick-up points will be provided to parents in letters from the Council by next Tuesday.

School meals will be provided for pupils via the Cwmtawe Community School’s catering facilities. There will be no Breakfast Club for the Godre’r Graig pupils for the first few months due to logistics however they will receive a mid-morning snack.

If there are any questions or issues from parents or others affected by the new arrangements they should contact the Council’s dedicated e-mail address for Godre’r Graig issues: godrergraig@npt.gov.uk
