The electoral register
There are two versions of the electoral register, the full register and the open register.
The full register
The full register lists the names and addresses of everyone registered to vote in elections. This register is used for:
- making sure only eligible people can vote
- detecting crimes such as fraud
- calling people for jury service
- checking credit applications
The open register
Any person, company or organisation can buy the open register. For example, it is used by businesses and charities to confirm name and address details.
Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for them to be removed. Removing your details from the open register does not affect your right to vote.
Opting out of the open register
You can opt-out if you are registering to vote online.
If you are already registered you can opt out at any time by contacting us.
You can opt out of the open register but cannot opt out on behalf of another person.
Inspecting the full register
The full register is available for inspection at Port Talbot Civic Centre. It can only be viewed in person, under supervision.
Purchase of the open register
Only the open version of the register is available for general sale. It can be purchased in its entirety or in part and can be used for any purpose. Prices are calculated as follows:-
- in paper form - £10 admin fee plus £5 per 1000 entries in the Register
- in data form - £20 admin fee plus £1.50 per 1000 entries in the Register
If you would like to purchase the information, contact Electoral Services.
