Biodiversity Duty Plan
Under the Environment (Wales) Act 2016 the Council needs to:
- maintain and enhance biodiversity
- promote the resilience of ecosystems whilst undertaking its functions
This plan demonstrates how we will fulfil that duty. It will act as a driver for conservation activities throughout Neath Port Talbot.
The Welsh Government requires public bodies and councils to plan and deliver services in line with sustainable development principles. Our Corporate Plan 2022-2027 recognises this requirement. Our Biodiversity Duty Plan (BDP) also explains:
- how we are delivering well-being objectives
- the ways of working under the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015
The BDP 2020-2023 Implementation Report describes what we did to deliver the actions in the last plan. It goes on to:
- make recommendations on how to develop each action
- proposes new actions
We put those recommendations in place in the new Biodiversity Duty Plan 2023-2026. Council approved the 2023-2026 Plan in December 2023. We will publish the accompanying implementation report in 2026.
