28 March 2024
Starting from Tuesday 2nd April 2024, there will be a temporary road closure (see map) on a section of the A4069 Amman Road in Lower Brynamman for essential civil engineering works by the Coal Authority. The works will take approximately three weeks to complete.
The work by the Coal Authority is required to put a solution in place to ensure the long-term stability of the road following a ground collapse caused by historical coal mine workings beneath the surface.
Vehicles will be unable to pass a section of the A4069 Amman Road, starting from its junction with Glyn Road and extending approximately 250 meters northward.
A diversion for traffic will be via the A4069, A4068, A4067, and A474. Signs will be in place to guide you through alternative routes.
Access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will remain open.
Household waste and recycling collections in the area will continue as scheduled (Easter bank holiday collections will be a day later). However, there may be slight delays in the collection times.
The following local bus services and home to school journeys will be affected:
- First Cymru – Service 124 will only be serving Ammanford to Lower Brynamman Turning at Glyn Road/ Banwen Place.
- Adventure Travel – Service 64 journeys to Ammanford will be diverted via Pontardawe in both directions. These journeys will not serve Cwm Tyrch Isaf, Cwm Twrch Uchaf, Ystradowen, Cwmllynfell, Rhosamman and Upper Brynamman. Contact Adventure Travel for their temporary timetable.
- DANSA – Service 167 will be suspended and turned around in Glyn Road and will return as the Service X26.
- First Call Travel – Route 973 to YG Ystalyfera from Lower Brynamman. The route will commence 41 mins earlier at 07.15am instead of the usual time of 07.54am. The first pick up is Barry Road, then Banwen Place. The vehicle will then have to complete the diversion, via Pontardawe to then collect at Station Road, Brynamman for 08.00am. The bus service will continue with its usual timetable from there.
