The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) encourages the reporting of archaeological items found by metal detectorists and other members of the public in England and Wales. Thousands of objects are discovered by metal detectorists in Wales each year, including 20-30 items declared as Treasure.
Meet members of the Portable Antiquities Scheme: Amgueddfa Cymru team, find out about the work they do and help them explore and identify archaeological finds from across Wales. Learn what is considered Treasure and what to do if you find any!
There will be the opportunity to bring archaeological finds that you might have uncovered while metal detecting, maybe from your garden, or while out and about on walks which members of the PAS Team will try to identify.
The Celtic Heritage Metal Detecting Group will also be in attendance, with demonstrations and a selection of artefacts it has discovered from the locality including coins, buckles and brooches.
The event is held at Neath Library, Saturday 11th March from 10:30-3
Talk 10:30am – 11:15 am
11:15 am – 3pm Meet the Team. Bring along your artefacts for identification & help with what to do next. Find out about metal detecting clubs near you.
