Neath Port Talbot Council has launched a new online directory of public spaces and buildings which people can use to keep warm during the winter.
The NPT Warm Spaces Directory enables people to find their nearest library, community centre, church hall or any other registered place that is offering a welcoming space for people to stay warm and safe. It includes information on opening times and what sort of services are available such as Wi-Fi access, toilet facilities, activities, and refreshments.
Councillor Simon Knoyle, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance and Social Justice, said: “We know that the cost of heating a home is a huge concern for many people. We don’t want anyone to be struggling in the cold so we are encouraging people to come and use one of the Warm Spaces offered by the council or one of the community groups we are lucky to have throughout the county borough.
“I would also urge any local organisations who are already offering this type of service to their community to register as a Warm Spaces on our directory so that people who may not already know about the support can find them.”
The new directory is just one of the ways the council is helping people to manage during the cost of living crisis this winter. Other support that has already been launched includes a dedicated ‘Help with the cost of living’ webpage. The webpage contains information on how people can get help with things such as accessing benefits, reducing energy bills, childcare costs, finding work, and managing money.
