Look to the skies as Neath Port Talbot Celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

31 May 2022

As part of the chain of beacons being lit across the UK this week to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, three LED Jubilee Beacons will be lit in Neath Port Talbot.

These will be lit at the Pontardawe Arts Centre, and at Neath and Port Talbot Civic Centres at 9.45pm on Thursday (June 2nd, 2022).

On 6th February this year, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, as well as lighting the beacons, Neath Port Talbot Council has opened a book of celebration to enable members of the public to send their congratulations and pay tribute to Her Majesty.

The book will remain open until 6pm on Thursday 30th June 2022.

Messages can be submitted either individually, or as a representative of an organisation.

All tributes will be reviewed before they are published and we reserve the right to remove any inappropriate messages.

Organisations, community groups and residents are planning to hold a whole host of events throughout Neath Port Talbot to honour the monarch’s 70-year reign.

As well as parties being planned by residents in streets, parks and community centres, other highlights include a Jubilee Civic Service at St. David’s Church in Neath and an exhibition featuring pictures of the Queen’s past visits to Neath Port Talbot.

The free exhibition will be on show at venues in Neath, Pontardawe and Port Talbot throughout June, July and August.

And, later this autumn, the Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting programme (the initiative being led by Cool Earth) will continue planting more trees throughout the county borough.
