More than £4m to ‘Catch up, Clean Up and Green up’ communities across Neath Port Talbot

Towns and villages across Neath Port Talbot are set to benefit from £4.3m worth of improvements to spruce up and rejuvenate public areas in local communities.
Members of the council‘s Streetscene and Engineering Cabinet Board gave the go ahead for the spending package at their meeting on Friday (March 18th 2022).
The improvement projects include widespread road and footpath resurfacing schemes, vital drainage projects, replacement of street furniture, new bus shelters, road safety and traffic calming measures plus work on bridges.
The projects are part of the council’s Works Programme for 2022/23 and every ward in Neath Port Talbot will benefit.

In addition, more than £2m will go on other vital work across Neath Port Talbot such as dealing with landslips, road markings, sprucing up roundabouts, replacing old subway lighting, drainage works, and replacing benches in parks and open spaces.
Cllr Mike Harvey, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Engineering, said: “We really care about our environment and the feedback from our Let’s Talk consultation confirmed that this is also a priority for people living and working in the county borough.
“As part of our ‘Recover, Reset, Renew’ corporate plan we promised to help ‘catch up, clean up and green up’ communities right across the county borough.
“This injection of more than £4m into a string of community improvement programmes will bring our infrastructure up to date, make our roads safer while building on the very strong sense of community we have in Neath Port Talbot.”
The Cabinet Board’s decision was subject to a three day call in period.
