About Flying Start
Childcare
If you live in a Flying Start area, your child may be able to access free part-time childcare where staff are highly qualified, trained and DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked. Childcare is available 2½ hours per day, 5 days a week, for 42 weeks during the year your child is 2. Settings offer quality indoor and outdoor environments, which help your child settle and make new friends. They are well planned with lots of opportunities for your child to explore, discover and be curious about their world. These new experiences build on the knowledge and skills your child has gained with you at home, supporting their development ready for nursery and school.
Health
Your child’s well being comes first for us. Within Flying Start areas Health Visitors have more time to spend with families. They will offer extra support and advice throughout pregnancy and the first years of your child’s life.
Play, Learn, Grow
You have the biggest part to play in your child’s development. There are play and learn sessions / parent toddler groups in your community. You can have fun reading, singing and playing with your child. Sharing ideas along the way with other parents, carers and professionals. The sessions support children to learn through play and develop their language, communication and social skills.
Parenting Support
Flying Start is about providing support for the whole family: mums, dads and carers – as well as the extended family. Looking after young children can be very challenging and no-one has all the answers. Click on the link above to find out more about our team and what they can offer you as a family.
