Become a Befriending Volunteer
How it works
Volunteer befrienders are matched with a person in the community to provide much-needed companionship and the opportunity for people who are isolated to get out and about in the local area. Matches are made taking into account location, hobbies, interests and personality. Volunteers will receive support from the project coordinator so that the process is enjoyable and rewarding.
All our volunteers will need to undertake a DBS check.
Things to do as a Befriender
Befrienders might spend some time with the individual in their home for a cup of tea and a chat, or do things in the community together like going shopping, visiting a park or fishing for example.
How much time is needed
The role of a befriender is very flexible. A time and place will be agreed between you the volunteer and the service user. We generally ask for a minimum of an hour a week.
We will ensure that as a volunteer you will be supported by your coordinator on every step of your journey with us.
Training
You will be required to undertake basic training including safeguarding, boundaries and equality & diversity.
You will receive a certificate for each training course attended.
