Educational Psychology & SBC Service
Meet the team
We are a core team of 11 Educational Psychologists (EPs) working in each and every school across Neath Port Talbot. We are all registered practitioner psychologists with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). In addition, educational psychologists work within the Flying Start Team and Early Years.
The School Based Counselling Service also sits within the Educational Psychology Service and consists of a range of qualified practitioners who work on a part and full time basis within both our primary and secondary settings.
What we do
The Educational Psychology Service conducts regular consultations and problem solving sessions with teachers, parents & carers and a range of other professionals to explore any barriers to pupils' learning and wellbeing in order to create positive outcomes for all. Each psychologist has responsibility for a cluster of schools and we offer a regular school visiting programme. The number of visits allocated is dependent on the size of the school and level of need. Access to our core EP service is through schools. We also cover schools offering specialist provision to pupils within the authority. Please see the list of specialist provisions in Neath Port Talbot . We offer a range of services including: Consultation, Assessment, Observation, Training, Therapeutic Work and Research and Policy Advice.
The School Based Counselling Service offers children and young people an opportunity to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings, and work through any problems they are facing. Access to the core service is through schools, but further information on Counselling and the services that are available during the Covid19 pandemic can be found on the School Based Counselling website.
