Additional Learning Needs Support Service (ALNSS)
The Additional Learning Needs Support Service (ALNSS) ensures Children and Young People (CYP) with the most complex Additional Learning Needs (ALN) are provided with the Additional Learning Provision (ALP) required to meet their identified needs and achieve the best possible outcomes during their time within Education.
The Service consists of a range of skilled officers including:
- Transition and Partnership Officers
- Person Centred Review (PCR) & Individual Development Plan (IDP) Officers
- An IDP Systems & Process Officer
- An Early Years Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Lead Officer
- A School Age ALN Lead Officer
- A Post-16 ALN Lead Officer
- Early Years ALN Support Officers
- Clerical Officers
What we do
The service has several functions, which are linked to the processes outlined in the current statutory Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice for Wales and the Additional Learning Needs Code for Wales 2021.
These are:
- organisation of assessment requests for consideration of a Local Authority Maintained Individual Development Plan (IDP)
- the coordination of decision making in regards to assessment requests
- creation and maintenance of IDPs
- considering recommendations made in Person Centred Reviews (PCRs) of IDPs
- maintenance of Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN) by considering recommendations made in Annual Reviews
- provision of impartial support, advice and guidance to pupils, parents/carers and schools in relation to ALN and ALN systems.
- provision of additional transition support for pupils with ALN at key points in their education
