Active Young People Team
The Active Young People team are responsible for developing and delivering physical activity and sport opportunities across the County Borough.
The AYP team works with a number of different partners to ensure the programme can reach as many as possible. Strong links have been made with all schools, this has ensured positive and regular communication and delivery of activity to young people.
Young Ambassador Scheme
The Young Ambassador scheme trains children and young people to be leaders and the voice for sport and physical activity. Bronze ambassadors are currently operating in primary schools.
Silver ambassadors have been trained in secondary schools and we have gold ambassadors based at NPTC group college and Platinum Ambassadors that represent us on a national level.
These ambassadors are all directly promoting physical activity and sport in their communities, promoting school club links and delivering and leading sessions themselves.
The service and its strong links with schools has delivered many projects and initiatives including:
- dragon sport, multiskills and sport,
- PESS,
- 5x60,
- targeted projects,
- sporting pathway development
- and influenced the development of schools as community sport / activity facilities.
We are using schools and local parks as a base for multisport camps and holiday activities. We have linked with healthy schools and other sport / activity providers to enhance our offer.
Street games
Street Games activities designed and delivered by PASS aims to target areas of poverty and provide affordable, accessible activity provision for young people on their doorstep. Collaboration between the service the police, previously communities’ first teams, schools and local community groups has ensured successful engagement and the development of new activity sessions in the most deprived communities in Neath Port Talbot.
Partnership work
Links with higher and further education including Neath Port Talbot College Group, University of Wales Trinity St David and the University of South Wales has led to improvements in our workforce and expanded the delivery of projects.
We have also used research undertaken by undergraduates to shape the offer for physical activity and sport. Many of our employees have completed a placement with us or have been trained at colleges / university in the area.
A large number of sessions / festivals and events have been delivered in partnership with NPTC Group and training delivered by the AYP team to BTEC sport students ensures quality delivery by students completing hours of delivery in schools as part of their course.
Making the most of local facilities
We are using the Celtic facilities to run weekly sessions, we are also using schools, community centres and our excellent natural resources in partnership with outdoor activity providers. Recent projects focusing on Mountain Biking and Surfing has developed junior clubs for these activities.
In order to develop pathways for selected sports links with national governing bodies have ensured a joined up approach and enhanced the grass roots offer in this area.
Netball is a fantastic example with the development of 6 community based clubs and a Swansea Bay Netball league with over 500 girls playing competitively on Friday evenings with clubs from Swansea and Bridgend travelling to Neath Port Talbot to compete.
Keep up to date
Many of our activities are promoted on Facebook and Twitter. Please view our pages for more information.
The service uses Eventbrite to sign up children to activities.
