Street trading

The Street Trading provisions have been adopted throughout the Borough of Neath Port Talbot. This means that any person wishing to carry out street trading requires  consent from the Council. Street Trading is defined as the selling, or exposing, or offering for sale of any article (including a living thing) in a street, which includes any road, footway, beach or other area to which the public have access without payment and land/road adjoining a service station.

Depending on your preferred method of trading, we offer a street trading consent for a specific location or a street trading consent that permits roaming.

Trading at a specific location means that the trader can only trade at the location specified on their consent, for example a burger van.

A roaming trader will move from street to street and will only remain stationary for the period in which sales are being made and in any case for a maximum of 10 minutes at each location, for example an ice cream trader.

The Council also offers street trading consents for “Special Events” which are valid for a few days during a specific festival or market.

The Council have adopted a street trading policy, which applicants must comply with. Applicants are advised to read the policy prior to making an application.
