Free school travel
Eligibility
Children ages 5-16 can get free school travel support if they're eligible.
- go to their nearest or designated school
- live in the area or be looked after by the council
- live 2 miles or more away from their primary school
- live 3 miles or more away from their secondary school
- have no safe walking route between their home and school
- have Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or a mobility problem
Distances are measured by the shortest available walking route and may include footpaths.
ALN travel
The same eligibility criteria listed above applies to children with ALN.
If the child's disabilities prevent them from walking to school, travel for a shorter distance will be considered.

Before you start
We will need the child's:
- name
- date of birth
- address
- school details
- emergency contact details
School travel options
You must arrange your child's travel to school if they don't qualify for free school travel.
School travel options available are:
- public buses and trains
- dedicated school buses
- walking and cycling
- car share
- taxi
Order a replacement school bus pass
If your child has lost or damaged their school bus pass, you can order a replacement online.
