Individual Disabled Parking Places

We provide parking spaces for residents with serious mobility issues.

Exceptions may be made for others based on need.

No parking will be provided for visitors, health professionals, or non-resident carers.

We do not provide spaces if there's parking at the property, like a garage or driveway.

Please read the policy document for more details.

Application process

Assessment of walking ability

Proof of the applicants serious medical condition must be shown during the interview.

This evidence must show they can't walk or have great difficulty walking. Exceptions may be made for those without major mobility issues.

Traffic site survey

If you qualify based on walking ability, your address will be surveyed next.

We assess each case on its individual merits, taking into account:

  • parking arrangements
  • existing restrictions
  • availability in the street

Legal process

Once all criteria is met, we will seek a legal Traffic Regulation Order. We will notify nearby neighbors through the press, giving them a chance to respond.

If there are no objections, the Traffic Order will be sealed. We will mark the bay on the road, put up a sign, and issue a parking permit

If we get valid objections, the Environment and Highways Cabinet Board will make a final decision.

Timescales

Due to high demand and limited funds, the average waiting time is about 18 months.
