During this year’s Armed Forces Week and in the year that marks the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, Neath Port Talbot Council is looking for local stories which capture the county borough’s proud military heritage.
Celebrating and promoting our heritage is a key theme in the Heritage Strategy for Neath Port Talbot 2023-2038.
In keeping with this the stories will help us create a new exhibition which will open later this year detailing the exploits of those local people who fought for their country or were involved in the ‘home front’ such as working in munitions factories or acting as fire wardens.
For instance, were you or any of your close relatives involved in the preparations for D-Day, in the landings themselves or in any other conflicts since, such as the Falklands War?
We are looking for people to send in photographs, take part in videos, send in their own videos or just talk to us about their stories and memories so we can document these for future generations.
While this will be part of an ongoing effort to collate and share information to celebrate our Armed Forces community past and present, the first set of stories will be shared during the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot’s Armed Forces Festival at the end of October.
If you would like more information or have a story to share, please email armedforces@npt.gov.uk or call 07870 979336.
