Due to unforeseen circumstances, resurfacing at Maesteg Road will no longer go ahead on Thursday 2nd March. The resurfacing works have been rescheduled to take place on Friday 3rd March instead.
Please note that the work scheduled to take place on Sunday 5th March in Maesteg Road will not be delayed because of this.
The road works – which began on Sunday, February 26th - are part of Neath Port Talbot Council’s plans to tackle urgent transport issues affecting Cymmer, Abercregan and Glyncorrwg.
The Welsh Government has now announced its Roads Review and while a number of road projects have been axed, the Cymmer Carriageway Improvements project has been listed as a “Local Authority Scheme”.
This means it can qualify for Welsh Government transport grant funding subject to meeting new criteria in Wales for road building and the Welsh Government's commitments under the Well-being of Future Generations Act.
However, in the interim, essential resurfacing work has become necessary on a major section of Maesteg Rd, Cymmer, between its junctions with Station Road and Avon Street. (see below for details).
The remainder of the resurfacing work will be carried out on the following dates:
Friday 3rd March 2023 – Daytime Working 9am to 3pm
Resurfacing of Avon Street with road closure/temporary traffic lights - alternative route via Craig Y Fan Terrace.
Sunday 5th March 2023 - Night-time Working 6pm to 12 midnight
Resurfacing of Maesteg Road – Involving road closure with no official alternative route.
Please be advised that additional highway maintenance works will be required on Wednesday, March 1st and Thursday, March 2nd when Avon Street, Cymmer will be under a road closure during daytime working hours with traffic being diverted via Craig y Fan Terrace.
